In my group, we decided to go to the
library to film our sequence as there were a few people in the room and we
thought we could add some ambient sounds such as people talking and school bell
ringing etc. Our clip was entirely hand held as we thought it would be easier
to walk through without disturbing anyone and it adds a cool first person feel.
The scene started off with a close up of a few of the books in the library,
with aspects of a dolly shot as the camera started moving across the books. The
rest of the sequence was just a slow pan across the room whilst we walked up
the library.
When we started editing, we decided it
would we best to split up and see what we could come up with and after every 15
minutes of work, listen to what each other had created. In my sequence I tested
out background music first. I tested out three different genres of music to see
which would work best with the clip. The first genre I tried out was jazz, this
featured the use of synths in the sound of several instruments, such as an electric guitar with a clean sound, a saxophone, a bass guitar.
I then tried out a rock genre, this was because we had the idea of making the clip into a spy themed video. I looked at some examples of modern spy movies and they all seemed to feature rock music either as the main theme or just incidental music. I used and electric guitar sound with a bit of overdrive, as well as other guitar sounds to lap over it. I didn't finish this idea though as I felt that my next idea fit the video more towards our chosen genre.
So for my final idea, I used a range of different sounds for diegetic and nondiegetic sounds. This included slow paced music, with stringed instruments playing the main theme. This have the video and intense feel as the camera shows them walking through the room. I feel that the last one was the most successful as I explored a range of different techniques for the sound.
